"First, there is the randomness to the collection of materials. On his walks, his urban wanderings like the creeks bordering Marseille, he gathers small objects, small stones or pieces of rope, fragments of wood from boats. But Charles Le Hyaric is also a collector of images and landscapes: the blue of the sky or the waves, the viscosity and grace of marine animals reappear in his works. It’s no longer a question of reproducing them, but rather of bringing them about by successive indecisions."

"Classic question in art history: how to represent the sea? Painters and photographers have been working on this for centuries. Le Hyaric has another, more direct solution: to collaborate with salty water and chance. The first corrodes, dirties and colors what he immerses in it: canvases, cardboard and metal plates. The second brings him bits of driftwood, old ropes that fray, gnawed stones, corals..."
